Searching for Gray Whales in Puget Sound

Today we couldn’t pass up the nice spring weather to go out looking for whales. It’s the time of year when gray whales take a detour from their northward migration to feast on ghost shrimp in Puget Sound. I myself have seen them near Hat Island while on a whale watching trip some years ago. We didn’t find any whales, but we did find the Langley Whale Center, along with some ice cream. It was the first time since I’ve had my boat that I wasn’t freezing while driving it. I’m hitting this year’s season with a running start. I think I may have gotten my girlfriend hooked on boating already. She enthusiastically wants to learn everything. Today for the first time she handled all the lines while docking and undocking, and got some practice driving on plane in blustery seas.
