Now I’m learning all about how to rig a car for towing. When I was shopping for a new used car three years ago, I was lucky to come across this Forester that already had an after market tow kit. I wasn’t sure at the time what I would need it for. However, I still had to acquire the tow bar with the right height, the ball that is that right size, and get the electrical connections right. My car actually required a three-inch lift. Because of the huge amount of torque required to properly secure the trailer ball, I took my bar to a tire shop and begged them to crank the ball on for me (thanks Downtown Everett Goodyear!). The last thing now is to rewire the car with a five-prong electrical connector instead of the four-prong I have. This is to accommodate the surge brakes on the trailer.
