My Ship Has Come In… And It Fits in the Garage!

After seven months of waiting, my ship has come in! And (drumroll please…) It fits! Just barely.

I just noticed on Friday that even though the website states that it’s 6’9″ tall, the owners manual states that it’s 6’5″. I think the latter is accurate. What grief I went through because of this misinformation! It wasn’t a total waste though because I was able to clear a bunch of low hanging ceiling boards and replace them with a different structure. It only clears the top of the garage door by a fraction of an inch. I was right to be concerned.

There was one snafu. The first thing I noticed was that after all the trouble I went through to wire up a five-pin connector on my car, the trailer had only a four pin. It turns out that it has no trailer brakes! Even though I had sent an email to the dealer confirming that my trailer had brakes, they ordered the wrong one. I did verify that they didn’t charge me for brakes. I decided that rather than waiting several more months for them to get me the right trailer, I would just take it home and maybe add some myself. I did use the incident to negotiate for more free training next week.

Their training captain was unavailable this week, so my test run was with the salesman (I’m getting the real guy next week). The forecast gloom and doom didn’t materialize, and it was a sunny afternoon. It was, however, quite a blustery day on Lake Union. Even he had trouble docking it in the wind, and I only got to make a couple of practice runs. I did get to take it up to speed on the heavy waves and get a feel for it. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.

It’s quite a small boat actually, but it fits like a glove in my garage. I’m going to need a lot of practice before I can confidently squeeze it in by myself. Thanks so much to my friend Tyler for coming over and putting it in the first time! I then took it out and put it in once myself with his guidance.
