Full Throttle Crabbing in November

I met a new diehard crabbing partner in a Facebook fishing-crabbing-clamming-squidding group, and we went out crabbing yesterday. Yeah, it was freezing. That’s why they call it winter crabbing. What a gorgeous day though! After setting our pots near Hat Island, we went into Langley for lunch before pulling them. It was my first experience taking my boat to another marina, calling them on the radio, docking, paying for moorage, and walking away from my boat.

What a fun day, and another great adventure in the books. We came home with six Dungeness and two Red Rocks. She usually throws the Rocks back in, but I wanted to try them. They’re smaller so they’re less meat for the same amount of work, but everyone should try it once. These guys have more sweet-tasting meat than the Dungeness; a very unique flavor. She also showed me how to clean them on the dock, “clean” being a euphemism for something very brutal. I’m getting more confident in my boating, trailering, and crabbing skills.
