I took advantage of the good weather today to temporarily move my boat off its trailer and into a friend’s boathouse on Lake Stevens. On Monday I’m taking the trailer down to a shop in Kent to have surge brakes installed. My little Forester can tow 2400 lbs., but trailer brakes are necessary if the load is over 1000 lbs. My boat, trailer, and fuel are about 1900 lbs. I’ll feel a lot safer with the trailer brakes.
When I put in it was sunny, and I thought I’d get the chance to take my friends for a spin around the lake. However, between the boat launch and their house (barely a mile away) I entered a thick fog bank. I went slow and I was able to find the house okay, but I’m glad I didn’t leave one minute later. I’m very grateful to my friends for helping me with short term storage, and considering they don’t even own a boat, I’m supremely lucky that they happen to own a boathouse.
