My mission today was to take my new boat out on a complete trip all by myself, with no assistance from anyone. Keep in mind that this is one of the reasons I wanted to buy a boat in the first place. I was never able to take my canoe out without having to convince someone that they needed to propel the boat themselves, and lift it over their head four times per trip to get it on and off the car at each end. Actually I cheated a bit, because I accepted random offers of help from passersby a couple of times along the way. I went to Lake Goodwin, which I had never been to in all the years I’ve lived here even though it’s right up the road. I was more than a little nervous.
The new engine break in procedure called for me to run it at full throttle for one minute, six times ten minutes apart. I chose a course on the lake for my speed run, then I would cruise a big circle around the lake to come back again. It was a really good practice session. I feel really good having proved that my boat can actually fulfill the mission I bought it for.

The hardest part was the jetski yayhoos making huge wakes right in front of the boat launch. It made my launching a bit stressful, until somebody finally yelled at them and got them to move along. They just didn’t seem to get what a problem they were creating for boaters at the busy launch.
Next up are two more training sessions with instructors. I’m hoping to get it out on salt water soon.
