The Memorial Day incident was a wakeup call that I need to take better care of my boat batteries, or replace them. Although I kept them in my warm basement during the winter, I’ve never kept them on a battery maintainer like I should. For the first time, I added distilled water to them. They only needed a little, but they did need it. I went out and bought an actual two-bank battery charger/maintainer, not just the cheap battery charger I had before. I’ve got them cooking on that now. Let see what voltage they measure tomorrow. This will allow me to easily plug the boat in whenever it’s in the garage, and it keep them topped off and healthy all the time.
The Coast Guard requires every boat over 16 feet to carry flares, and they have to be replaced every 42 months. Mine barely qualifies on length, and mine expire next month. So it was time for new ones. Now I have to figure it what to do with the old ones. I also got the proper height trailer hitch for my new Cherokee.
